From CFTP

ColoradoFTP mostly targets Java Developers. And the more Java experience you have the more you can adapt the server to your specific needs. Minimum experience required: Java5 and Spring Framework.

The server may also be used by non-technical users but there is little value in out-of-the box solution. All the power comes from plug-ins and proprietary extensions that suit just your business.

If you just need an FTP server then there are plenty out there, but if you need a special server that you can easily extend to do almost anything you want (provided you have enough experience) then try ColoradoFTP.
